Project Description

The section between Caulfield and South Yarra was identified as requiring all signal aspects to be upgraded to LED in readiness for Rail Projects Victoria’s (RPV) Rail Systems Alliance (RSA) signalling system upgrade. Existing signals were a mixture of incandescent and LED aspects, therefore all incandescent aspects were required to be upgraded to LED to ensure compatibility with new Ebi-Lock signalling system.

Our Scope

JBE was engaged as the Principle Contractor to complete the remaining Caulfield to South Yarra LED Upgrade project scope. JBE was required to complete critical remaining scope across three major occupations. The project was divided into two major phases.

Phase 1 - Works undertaken during major weekend occupation with multiple work group interfaces.

Signal Junction Box Modifications - existing signals were re-cabled at three locations (D220G, D192G, D178G) to accommodate junction boxes at these locations, our scope involved:

• Pre-installing cables.

• Cable termination and testing.

• Function testing and aspect sequence testing.

Signal structural modifications at five locations (D271G, F271G, D288G, F288G, D262G), our scope involved:

gantry cage installation / modification - existing signal gantries to be modified

• Removal of existing gantry cages and installation of new.

• Disconnection and re-termination and test of cables.

• Function testing and aspect sequence testing.

Phase 2 - Works undertaken during two major weekend occupation with multiple work group interfaces.
