Project Description
As part of the Caulfield to Dandenong Project, the Pakenham line was upgraded with new signalling equipment including Westrace MK2 interlockings and Frauscher FAdC axle counters. The works were progressively commissioned between Caulfield and Pakenham with the final commissioning being carried out in December 2018.
As these works were progressively constructed, the axle counter systems were commissioned to varying standards, meaning that they are not consistent along the whole line. As an example, the occupation reset function is not available at locations between Caulfield and Yarraman.
RPV requested that works be carried out to ensure that the whole line is compliant to the most recent MTM requirements. This would allow future occupations in the area to maximise their track access time and reduce confusion from inconsistent reset methodologies.
There are a total of 17 REBs (or similar) that were installed as part of the CTD project.
Our Scope:
JBE was engaged to upgrade the axle counter reset functionality between Caulfield and Pakenham. The scope of works was divided into two distinct sections:
Area 1 – Caulfield to Westall (8 REBs + 4 Location Cases)
Area 2 – Westall to Dandenong (5 REBs)
Our scope of works involved:
Procurement, fit out and install of new signalling enclosure
Cable hauling for new axle counter heads and multicore cables
Installation of new GAK foundations and installation of local CSR into existing pit and pipe
Pre-wiring and pre-occupation installation of upgraded axle counter reset panels
Pre-testing works including bell testing and pre-function testing
Function testing and supporting MTM in final commissioning of assets into service
