Project Description

The Coolibar Avenue pedestrian crossing is an existing passive crossing on the Frankston line. Approximately 233 trains per day traverse this pedestrian crossing with a line speed of 95 km/h. The pedestrian crossing was rated as one of the highest risk pedestrian crossing in Victoria.

As part of the Statewide Railway Pedestrian Crossing Upgrade Program, Coolibar Avenue Pedestrian Crossing has been upgraded from a passive to an active pedestrian crossing by Metro Trains Melbourne.

Our Scope

JBE as the Principle Contractor was responsible for delivering the Civil, CSR, Signalling Construction and Testing support for the duration of the project. Our scope of works involved the following:

Principle Contractor requirements for the duration of the project:

  • Site safety management for all subcontractors and third parties

  • Occupation management

  • Environmental and sustainability requirements

Civil / CSR & Track Construction:

  • Demolition of existing pedestrian crossing infrastructure – retaining wall, fencing, crib, strail pad and asphalt.

  • Installation of new retaining walls

  • Installation of new CSR in and around the pedestrian crossing

  • Installation of new DDA compliant crib

  • Installation of new cross track ULX

  • Installation of new foundations to support new lighting around the pedestrian crossing

  • Installation of new PedeSTRAIL and associated track works

Signalling Construction:

  • Installation of new pedestrian and emergency gates.

  • Installation of new pedestrian crossing enclosure for new pedestrian gate and emergency gate controls.

  • Provision of new indication panel in pedestrian crossing enclosure

  • Installation of new axle counters

  • Installation of power and multicore signalling cables
